Liberals and taxing the rich

Michael Barone on "why liberals like taxing the rich." This bit is especially true:

ABC’s Charlie Gibson asked candidate Obama if he would raise capital gains taxes even if, as in the past, that brought in less revenue to the federal government.

Yes, said Obama. “I would look at raising the capital gains tax for purposes of fairness.”

Ponder that answer for a moment. A candidate for president — president now — said he wants to take more money from people who earned it even though doing so would produce less money for the government.

The philosophy that has to be behind that answer is also behind the Obama administration budgets that have proposed capping the charitable deduction for high earners. The clearly intended result would be a massive transfer of money from the voluntary sector of society into government.

Opposing Barack Obama on the last point is especially important: If we destroy the uniquely American propensity to do good works through private organizations, we will alter the character of the country forever. Not only will we have concentrated even more power in the central government, but we will have specifically undermined one of the principal mechanisms by which we bind our communities together -- charitable, civic, religious, and other voluntary groups that do good works.

The character of this country has ALREADY BEEN ALTERED.

When there were over 200 communist and socialist organizations in this country in 1880, this country was inalterably changed.

When there was an influx of millions of Russian Jews into this country at the turn of the century, this country was inalterably changed.

When Woodrow Wilson gave women the suffrage, the introduction of the Marxist Income Tax, the Marxist central bank called the Federal Reserve, this country was inalterably changed.

When John Dewey and the Hegelians changed and morphed the philosophical and educational basis of this country, this country was inalterably changed.

When Franklin Roosevelt packed the Supreme Court and forced this Social Security issue, this country was inalterably changed.

When America allowed the Frankfurt School and its members to come to America, this country was inalterably changed.

When those same Frankfurt members instigated and fomented the Hippie movement, this country was inalterably changed.

When LBJ in order to capture the Black vote "for the next 200 years" for the Democratic party with his "Great Society" program, this country was inalterably changed.

When de-segregation was FORCED down our throats by judicial fiat black-robed marxists and the end of a gun (against "free association"), this country was inalterably changed.

When the Bible was censored from public school curiculum, this country was inalterably changed.

When in 1965 the immigration law was changed to allow much more non-European immigration, this country was inalterably changed.

When Roe v Wade passed by judicial fiat, this country was inalterably changed.

I was born in 1960. This is NOT the country I grew up in! It is now a vulgar, bestial, vane, puerile, lawless, Marxist crap heap you call Amerika.

This country has been alterably changed for the last 200 years of its existence. The FFofA were nihilists and this country is slowly dissolving and disintegrating before our very eyes.

Obama will inalterably change this country?

B*&^ C(*&, he is a product of the inalterable change that has happened ever since. Obama is the product. He is acting accordingly and to his nature.

I remember the psuedo-Aesopian tale of the Frog and Scorpion. Two fools trying to cross the river. Death comes to fools.

Amerika is dead and gone. Vanished with the Fronteir. It's over. There is nothing to "conserve". AmeriKa is in a death spiral, nothing you can say or do is going to stop or slow it down to destruction. Let them stand by and self-destruct. There ain't nothing worth fighting for.

Duh!

The other foot drops. What took you do long.

Charities compete with government. Therefore charities are bad. Did you see anyone complaining when Catholic Charities got out of the adoption business in Massachusetts. The same with healthcare. Unless stopped they will be happy for Catholic institutions to get out of the medical services business. In fact I bet they will find some tame judges to approve eminent domain takeover of the medical facilities.

Taking the Churches assets worked out pretty well for Henry VIII.

Obama uses the word "fairness" but I do not understand what he means by it.

Hi TH!

Barone is misleading, of course, because Gibson didn't pose the question that way. He didn't say "if raising capital gains would bring in less money, will you do it anyway?" Instead he said raising capital gains in the past brought in less money, so why raise it? Nothing in Obama's response indicates he accepts the premise of the question.

Barone is paid to write this stuff but won't make the effort of providing a citation, which is a pretty good indication that he's being misleading and doesn't want people to check. The interview is here:

Uh, answering without objection indicates that he accepts the premise of the question.

FFofA = Future Farmers of America?

By Blogger W.LindsayWheeler, at Sun Mar 04, 06:37:00 AM:

FFofA=Founding Fathers of America.

To attack, undermine, or condemn the Old Order is nihilism. QV, Fr. Seraphim Rose's book, Nilhilism, The Root of Revolution in the Modern Age. You can download it free off the internet, I believe. Short book.

The Old Order is based on the laws of nature. And furthermore, Thomas Jefferson's concoction of "All men are created equal" is a fantasy not based on reality. It is ideological, not science based. The rejection of the Natural Law, which the FFofA, certainly did not have, makes them nihilists. Even on the dollar bill is this "Novus Ordo Secularum".

All nihilism self-destructs. Nihilism is a cancer in the body politic. Nihilism produces dysfunctionality and disintegration. Nihilism is a sickness of the human mind. The whole of the Enlightenment was Nihilistic. The FFofA were their inheritors. The intellectual foundation of Amerika is extremely flawed.

What Obama is doing is just furthering the process along, class warfare and covetousness. Worrying about "inalterably changing" is kind of superfluous.
