Sign of the times?

In what might be signs of their respective times, consider the "keynote" speakers at the last year's annual meeting of ADVAMED, the trade association of the medical device industry (which faces massive rifle-shot taxes to fund Obamacare), and this year's (bold emphasis added):

Last year:

AdvaMed 2010 is proud to announce its conference keynote speakers include: Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Donald Berwick; CBS Evening News Anchor Katie Couric; U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg; and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke.

This year:
The world's premier medical device and technology conference, AdvaMed 2011, announced President George W. Bush will address industry stakeholders at the 5th annual medtech conference hosted by the Advanced Medical Technology Association. AdvaMed 2011 will be held in Washington D.C. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Sept. 26-28. President Bush will provide the keynote address on Sept. 27.

Notice the difference?

Hm. So if a US Citizen gets an expensive medical device implanted outside the US, then returns home, are they taxed on it...yet?

By Blogger TigerHawk, at Fri Aug 05, 06:20:00 AM:

Right now, the tax is schedule to be imposed on the domestic revenues of device companies. The companies owe the tax, not the individuals. But you are right, the tax does mean that there is, at the margin, an improved incentive to develop devices for foreigners rather than the U.S. market. Indeed, that trend was already in place because of the aggressive posture of the Obama FDA, which is a different but also serious obstacle to innovation in medical technology.

I'd rather hear from the 2010 speakers, this year. They got some 'splaining to do, and I'd like to watch them squirm as they try. Well, except not Katie Couric -- she's a twit.

At this year's ADVAMED conference will the leaders of this group appologize for getting behind both obamacare and this ridiculous medical device tax?

Quaker cat didn't frame his question right. He should have asked:'

At this year's ADVAMED conference will the leaders of this group appologize for voting Obama and democrats in (and probably donating to his campaign)?

Republicans are just as bad. There is no constitutional legitimacy for the federal government to concern itself with education. But President Bush was the "educational president".

President Bush is as bad as Obama! George Bush destroyed the Republican party. Or better yet, the Republican party is George Bush. And they all want huge immigration to continue.

It was the Repubs that passed the income tax and are for Free Trade!

They both can go to hell. A Republican is no different than a Democrat. No difference.

The preceding comment is ridiculous.

That is all.
