Governor Awesome

Lest you harbor lingering doubts that New Jersey now has the best -- as in most culturally attuned to his own state and potentially most hopey and changey -- governor in the United States, this video of a Chris Christie press conference encounter ought to lay them to rest.

Substance here.

Yes, indeed, Governor Awesome now works in Trenton. Of all places.

I, for one, never thought for a moment during the election thought we were getting someone this outstanding. I keep waiting for the waffler-in-chief I expected to emerge and start talking about "working together to raise taxes", but so far it hasn't happened! Could Chris Christie really be this good?

I do not live in New Jersey, but it is fast becoming my fervent hope to one day enter a voting booth and pull a lever next to this guy's name. If he is as genuine and direct as I have seen him be thus far, I think he has a limitless future representing the American voters who are looking for common sense and straight talk. And by "straight talk", I mean the real thing - not the lame, sappy media kissing-up that John McCain has been peddling under false labeling for far too long.

I love this guy! He is all Jersey too and how can you not respect that? Not to mention, he looks like he just powered back about four doughnuts and two cups of joe after a long night of beer league softball games.

Christie ranks somewhere between "exceeds expectations by a long shot," and OMG! Where did this guy come from and where do we get more of them?

Agree with all four of those comments. Talk about your unexpected jackpot.

I'm not a resident of Jersey, sill, I am cautiously optimistic. It's about time someone had the cojones to tell the tax leaches "bite me !" and actually went out and did it. Still, cautiously optimistic ,and ,hopeful that he doesn't stray from the straight and narrow.

I'm moving back to Joisey.

I live half a continent away from NJ, so I don't follow the politics outside of the occasional headline.

Has Christie produced tangible results or is it still just tough talk? Not trying to be snarky. Just wondering?

He sure is a breath of fresh air. Enjoy it while you can.

I'm sure he'll be "Palined" or "Giulianied" soon enough.

Is anyone aware of any laws that would prevent him from running for Gov in say, California? Maybe he's got a brother? Sister? Close cousin? Right now, anyone related to this guy has got to have more potential than our CA choices today.

Earlier tonight I was musing about Reagan, lamenting that we need a guy like him NOW...not just Sean Hannity broadcasting his recorded speeches.

Then a friend e-mailed me the Christie video.

You Jersey guys have a national treasure...PROTECT HIM!!!

Awesome. Especially given that it was off the cuff.

"How about 'honest and refreshing?' Maybe we'll see that in your paper tomorrow."

Good luck New Jersey. I want to believe, but my brain says he'll be tossed out and replaced at the end of his term having made nary a dent.
