The audacity of enviro-sanctimony

As TH has often said, it would be easier to swallow the hysteria of the climate change alarmists if their own actions demonstrated the level of concern they expect all of us to have.
On a day when many Americans will be reflecting upon how they can reduce their impact on the environment, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will board separate jets in Washington on Earth Day morning to fly 250 miles up the east coast to New York, where they will land at separate airports to attend separate events within a few miles of each other.

The parallel visits of Air Force One (a 747/VC-25 aircraft) and Air Force Two (a 757/C-32A aircraft) will delay dozens, if not hundreds of commercial flights at Kennedy and LaGuardia and other nearby airports as no-fly zones are implemented. Jets will be forced to circle and burn more fuel as they wait for the VIPs to come and go. Their security contingents consisting of dozens of cars, SUVs and helicopters will burn even more. Throw in thousands of commuters’ cars and delivery trucks sitting idle in traffic as law enforcement closes large swaths of the city and you have yourself a very Earth-unfriendly day.
Yes, we live in a never ending Simpsons episode, and we have for some time.

You make a good point.

Are there no trains between Washington and New York?

I notice also that environmentalists don't hesitate to have lots of children.

Ah yes, the ol' I-demand-perfection-before-I'm-willing-to-do-a-darn-thing argument. I wonder what people who make this argument think about the argument that chickenhawks weren't really serious about Iraq because they only wanted other people to go serve.

Anyway, I don't think you want Obama and Biden on the same plane unless you're rooting for President Pelosi. The folks at the link should probably refresh their knowledge on succession issues.

As for taking trains, that's a good question - although there are probably more security issues with trains than planes.

Don, I know plenty of enviros who consider environmental issues regarding having biological children. Neither of us are talking about actual data, at this point, so it's just handwaving.

Who said anything about perfection?

I'm glad that they're being hypocritical on this one -- at least with the separate planes. We don't want one plane crash killing both the President and his immediate successor.

President Pelosi, heh, that was a good line. Mexico and Canada might start tipping over with the rush to the exits from the U.S.

I always thought we lived in a Dilbert cartoon...

I demand that you learn simple math (start with fractions) before suggesting that the world pisses away big bucks on highly mathematical, even more highly unproved AGW, you smarmy, unpublished in the peer-reviewed literature dolt.

I love you too, o brave Anon who's not willing to use his or her real name.

"Your math's off, Boludo - you should multiply by .46 instead of divide by .46.

Let us break it down for some who has admitted he doesn’t know much about statistics, who here shows a bit more more chutzpah than math knowledge.

What does this figure mean: (.04X.13)/.46) X100 ? What percentage of the McCain vote came from black voters. Let us prove that statement.

.04 = Black McCain Voters/BlackVoters

.13= Black Voters/ Total Voters

Multiply .04X .13
What does that figure represent?
(Black McCain Voters/BlackVoters)X(Black Voters/ Total Voters)=
BlackMcCain Voters/Total Voters)

Calculate : (.04X.13)/.46 : What does that figure represent?

First: What does .46 represent? McCain Voters/Total Voters.

Therefore, (.04X.13)/.46 represents:
(BlackMcCain Voters/Total Voters)/(McCain Voters/Total Voters)=
BlackMcainVoters/McCainVoters: Which is what we want.

We can also represent this as (BlackMcCain Voters/Total Voters)X(Total Voters/McCain voters), if we recall that A/B= AX (1/B)

We multiply by 100 to change a fraction into a percentage.

By the way Brian, decimals and percentages, along with numerators and denominators, should have been covered by 7th and 8th grade math."

Neither my anonymity nor my bravery (or lack of it) have anything whatsoever to do with the fact that you can't understand simple math.
