The IOC: Iraq can go after all

The International Olympic Committee has reversed its decision banning Iraq from the Beijing games. Good. Such unadulterated stupidity should not stand even when it is perpetrated by an international bureaucracy.

I remember Afghanistan's first appearance in the Olympics after the start of the war. At the openning ceremonies, the crowd in the stadium gave them the loudest cheers of the night. I'm glad the IOC came to their senses about Iraq. The Iraqis may not win any medals but they'll be proud to be taking part and competing without the fear they endured under the Hussein monsters.

Well, that was mighty white of them to give permission.

Hey, unadulterated stupidity is practically the only talent international bureaucracies have. To quote P. Wrede, "everyone should be good at something".

Kudos to all those fought for Iraq, in any context. May they all win gold medals.
