Progress, ephemeral and otherwise

We are on the road today, flying from Newark to Durango, Colorado for family and skiing. Blogging will be catch-as-catch-can, so consider this an open thread or, if you would prefer, discuss the relevance of the data in the following chart to American strategic interests.

"so consider this an open thread"

Ah-ha! Official permission from the boss to do and say whatever we please!! To break free of the bonds of turptitude and soulless remorse by offering the world the boundless knowledge and infinite wisdom we all contain inside! To raise the tough topics and answer the tough questions that are simply too much for a mere blogger's mind to endure! To boldly go where no commenters have gone before!

So, you guys read any good books lately?

Actually, I do have a question for the group at large. Or at skinny, so as not to offend the anorexic.

When does a "developing" nation become a "developed" nation?

It just strikes me that when a country is 1st, 2nd or 3rd in anything, be it GNP, imports, exports, industrial output, industrial pollution, etc, that maybe it should be considered "developed" at some point?

No?

Obviously, India and China, with their 'developing countries" status, have been given a free pass when it comes to reducing emissions.

So, who decides when a country is officially "developed", and, since I figure the answer is going to be "The U.N.", why does that particular body get to make the decision?

A good indication that people are on the road visiting or shopping this weekend is that the comments are way down across the board. Charles Johnson over at LGF posted a picture of a fence by the ocean and it actually received less than 800 comments, a sure sign the sphereoblogs is off its feed. Or, given all the mincemeat pies and Christmas cookies lying around, perhaps on its feed would be closer to the truth.

So, for the rest of us deadbeat losers-, pardon me! I mean, for the rest of us bright, independent souls without Xmas plans, how 'bout a few fun links?

The next time you'd rather reply graphically to some moonbat or retard, rather than textually, try a Rejoinder Pic.

Can you guess the next picture in the Pictorial
Punchlines?

On a serious note, I read something really strange the other day. It was an article on current events, and it said something about the "Iraq War".

Isn't that odd?

I thought, isn't this author aware of The Rules of War?

On a sad note, though, ol' Doc finally lowered himself and took on some advertising. The good news is, it's a fairly modern company and they've placed a live video feed on my site from one of their bergcams.

If you missed my pictorial tribute to TH, here it is.

Have a fun weekend, y'all.
