Correcting Vietnam

For all the complaining in the press and the academy that George W. Bush misapprehends the lesson of Vietnam, this is a rather hilarious series of mistakes. I mean, considering the layers of fact-checkers and editors and such.

Any "journalist" today probably knows only what was taught on the subject of Veetnam in some college course (not necessarily a history course). Few contemporary historians accurately depict what happened there.

As for what today's journalist may or may not know about Vietnam...

I graduated high school in the late 80s. When taking US history, we were lucky to get through WWII, never mind covering Korea and Vietnam...

In college, the history class I took that covered post-Reconstruction US history was a "discussion class" and the text was not a standard history book, so we didn't study events/dates. We did discuss Vietnam, but I didn't know a lot of background for it. What I know about Vietnam, I've just sort of picked up here and there since graduating with my BBA in the early 90s... And I'm someone who is interested in history and whatnot...

For a feel of the broader war in Southeast Asia (it was never just about Vietnam) read "Thud Ridge" for an earlier view and "The Rescue of Bat 21" for a later view. I played a small part in the rescue of Bat 21 Bravo.

Its not acceptable to comparing Vietnam War with Iraq War,apart from my longterm doubt that whether happenings in Iraq is a War? Bush is frequently comparing Iraq with Vietnam on the basis of few similarities, but definitely he is misleading the truth...
