Fatwa of the week

So, apparently an Egyptian Muslim scholar is encouraging lactating women to breastfeed their male colleagues. At the office. Because it will discourage sexual harrassment.

I shit you not.

This is a trick to entice us to convert, right?

I don't have my dictionary with me, and the Internet translators are less than useful, but it seems to me that that fellow's initial translation is wrong.

I don't want to swear to it, but I think the Fatwa in question rules that a female breastfeeding the children of her co-workers is allowed and does not negate marriage, so long as it is in a closed room.

The phrase 'sexual harrassment' isn't even present.

OK, who put the LSD in the grape juice?

"...encouraging lactating women to breastfeed their male colleagues"?.

It works for me. Why is this a big deal?

Wow.

If the man doesn't want to feed at the bosoms, can he refuse, even if this may provoke unclean thoughts and future sexual harassment?

And while we're talking about whacked out fundamentalists defying reason...

"A child suffered third-degree burns to the left side of her face and her left hand, when her father placed a 2-month-old girl in a microwave oven and burned for 10 to 20 seconds. She is expected to recover and will be placed in a foster home.
Surprise, surprise, the defendant was studying to begin a career as a minister. From the Galveston (TX) County Daily News:

The child's father, 19-year-old Joshua Mauldin, faces a charge of injury to a child causing serious bodily harm. The charge carries a possible prison term of five to 99 years, as well as a fine of up to $10,000.

Mauldin, his wife, his mother and his daughter were in Galveston so he could begin a career in the ministry, according to his MySpace page. "Things were really messed up when I was away from God," he posted on the popular Internet service. "I've accepted the call to ministry and moving down to Galveston, TX!"

...Since his arrest, his wife, Eva Mauldin, has started a new MySpace page - groups.myspace.com/joshua mauldinisnotamonster. On the page, she writes that Mauldin was not to blame for the infant's injuries because "Joshua was possessed, and he tried to get help.""
